History of The Crows

In October 1979, Dick Trautwein met in the Crow Canyon Country Club (CCCC) Grill with eleven other members and proposed an organization be established for senior men in the club. The founding fathers of the club were:

Russ Comstock, Ken Morrissey, Jim Cowart, Dick Fitzgerald, Bill Geurin, Dean Jones, Ken McGill, Walt Mullaly, Bill Schick, Lee Webster, Jim Wurm and Dick Trautwein.

The newly formed Club was named after the original sour mash whiskey, Old Crow.  Years later, new members did not associate the club name "Old Crow Men's Club" (OCMC) with whiskey, and disliked Old in the name.  The club name was modified to "Crows Men's Club" (CMC) in 2016.  Keeping Crows in the name provided a link to our history, our mascot the American Black Crow and our association with the Crow Canyon Country Club.

The initial club membership requirements were:

1. Be retired.
2. Be a member of the Crow Canyon Country Club.
3. Agree to attend at least six luncheons a year.

In December 1979, the first Christmas Luncheon with partners as guests was held at the Country Club and thirty-eight attended. During 1980, many activities were initiated: Day at the Races, Dinner & Dance, Overnight Trip to Tahoe, Fishing Trip, Tennis Tournament and Bingo Night. The Senior Golf organization for Home and Away matches was started, and the first Crows Raven Beauty/Memorial Golf Tournament was held in 1981.

At the present time, there is no membership age or retired status requirement.  The only requirement is membership in the Crow Canyon Country Club and a desire for camaraderie and fellowship.

The "Seniors" home and away tournaments became very popular and today it is a large separate organization from the CMC.  Most of the "Seniors" are also members of the CMC.

"Emeritus" status has been granted to a few former Crows who have contributed significantly in the past to the organization but are no longer members of the Club.  In this case, they are treated as Guests of the Crows and allowed to participate as such in our events.  Any event fees incurred are paid directly by them to the Crows Treasurer.

The Crows Men's Club has the distinction of being the oldest and largest social club operating within Crow Canyon Country Club.
